May 28, 2016: "Silence Smiles" music and sound concert

Book your tickets here!

A musical sound journey past Van Morrison, Arvo Pärt to improvisations and the sounds of gongs and overtones.

The occasion for this special concert is our sound book 'Silence Smiles'. This book is the reflection of a musical journey of exploration that aims to invite to that same 'undistracted silence' through music, sound and meditation, as our sound concerts.

The sound book we release is both a listening and visual experience. With this concert, we also want to portray this in the form of dance and performing artists. The musicians are placed throughout the church in some pieces of music, making it a very meditative experience. For this evening, we have asked the musicians who collaborated on the soundbook project, in different compositions, to play self-selected pieces of music that, in their view Silence make known. Besides Arvo Pärt's well-known piece - Spiegel im Spiegel- and Van Morrison's - In the Garden-, several pieces of music from the CD recordings included in the book are performed. The playing of gongs and singing bowls weaves the pieces of music together like sound meditations. The evening thus explores in different colours the sounds of Silence. And is an invitation to resonate again with the keynote of unconditional Silence.

Besides the well-known musicians taking part, we have found 5 more top musicians willing to play along. Wolfert Brederode is perhaps the finest pianist we currently have in the Netherlands. Bram Stadhouders on guitar creates soundscapes and atmospheres like no other. Sanne Rambags sings poems by Sufi masters like a nightingale. Joost Lijbaart is the most subtle drummer we know and with the most colourful trumpeter André Heuvelman, this becomes a beautiful ensemble. Zen dancer Rocío Fernández from Ibiza will perform improvised Zen dances shaping silence during the concert.

Because we want to make silence known through - hearing and seeing - this is different from what you are used to from us, a seated concert (with intermission). Entrance is € 39,- p.p. (incl. coffee and/or tea). The concert will be held in De Grote Kerk (or Sint-Laurens Kerk), Nieuwstraat 31 in Weesp and is from 19.30 - 23.00.
