7 to 10 May 2026: Wheel of Sound Inner Journey 4-day gong retreat
Wheel of Sound Inner Journey
4-DAY GONG RETREAT
Date - Time: Thursday 7- to Sunday 10 May
Location: Sound Chapel Overlangel
Price: € 749.00 per person - including meals, coffee, tea and water
On the floodplains of the river Meuse, in the middle of peace and nature, lies the Sound Chapel. This is where the four-day Wheel of Sound - Inner Journey takes place: a gong retreat in which playing, listening and intention come together.
During the day, we practise playing with intention and in different volumes and layers, for each other, with each other, and sometimes alone. You learn to play gong intensively at various levels. Those who play for the first time discover new sounds; those who are already experienced notice how intention and attention deepen the playing. The pitch makes no distinctions. We explore how sound unfolds on different levels: from attention, from intention, from presence.
You experience how your play affects another person. What you offer is received, sometimes audibly, sometimes more subtly, but always palpably. Giving and receiving alternate in a natural movement.
The rhythm of the days is simple: play, listen, rest, receive, play again. through the day this is carried by Qigong, light breathing exercises and poetry which moves between the sounds like a whisper.
As Gwen and Harry put it:
“You don't get to feel better, but you get better at feeling.”
During this gong retreat, in the evening there are
three ceremonies.
Evening Ceremony Day 1 - I AM Gong meditation
The journey opens with the I AM Gong meditation. You play the gong yourself in meditation, with the intention I AM. Sound and silence alternate, and the distinction between player and listener softens. No goal, no performance, only direct experience.
Evening Ceremony Day 2 - The Wheel of Sound
Together, the wheel is laid with the reflection words Surrender, Gratitude, Forgiveness and Trust, and the elements Earth, Water, Fire and Air. You take your place at what resonates. The wheel indicates nothing, but makes visible what lives in you. During the day, further practice in playing with intention and in different volumes and layers.
Evening Ceremony Day 3 & night - Night prayer in sound
The inner journey deepens in a 7.5-hour ceremony in which the gong sounds continuously. This nocturnal sound form is known to many as a Gong Puja, but we approach it not as tradition, rather as a field of devotion and presence.
Participants take turns playing; Others rest, meditate or sleep.
Sound becomes bedding, silence becomes space. What sounds through the night is not a performance, but a continuous flow of resonance.
A wordless prayer, carried resonance.
As Rupert Spira puts it:
“Prayer is not expressing a wish, but remembering and acknowledging who we really are.”
Prepared with care.
Meals are an essential part of these days. Our private chef carefully and thoughtfully prepares vegetarian dishes that nourish without weighing down. Simple, tasty and in tune with the rhythm of the retreat.
Coffee, tea and water are provided throughout the days. There is room to pause, to sit together or just to be quiet. In this, too, there is no rush, only attention.
On Sunday morning, we conclude with a sumptuous breakfast. A quiet moment to come together, land and let the days sink in before everyone continues on their own way again
