From sound to stillness

At Spirit Connection, we do not approach sound as an extension of presence.
The instruments in the Sound Chapel have been carefully selected for their purity and their ability to create a bedding in which nothing ‘has to’, but everything is allowed to emerge.

Within this space, we work with different sound worlds, each with its own character and depth. Thus, our crystal overtone instruments a clear, refined resonance, while the copper overtone instruments instead add a grounding, supporting quality to the whole.

More subtle layers unfold through the chimes, which move through the space like light accents, and the ocean drums, in which a natural, undulating dynamic becomes audible that softens and deepens the whole.

Crystal Overtone Instruments

Purity in Resonance

Manufactured from high-quality quartz glass (silica), these instruments offer unprecedented clarity. The molecular structure of silica allows direct transmission of vibration, resulting in extremely pure frequencies that act directly on mental focus.

Sound character:

A transparent, ethereal layer of sound that almost seems to have no physical source. The tones are crystal clear and have an extremely long echo.

Playing mode:

This instrument is played by rubbing the edges of the glass bowls or tubes with moist fingers. This friction causes the crystal to vibrate without hard onset, resulting in a smooth, singing tone.

Purpose & Application:

Fine, clear sounds that bring attention inward and soothe mental noise.

Stabilising effect:

Ideal for opening a session or for space purification.

It serves as a nuance tool that immediately brings the mind to a meditative state and
is effective in breaking through static energy and mental noise.

Brass Overtone Instruments

Sound character:

The sound is warmer, fuller and “heavier” than that of crystal. It has a remarkably long ‘sustain’ in the lower and middle registers of the overtones. The resonance feels enveloping and deeply grounded.

Playing mode:

These instruments offer great variation in timbre through the choice of beater. Felt or rubber gives a warm, soft onset; metal provides a sharper, more present overtone. In addition, metal can be rubbed on for a sustained, singing vibration.

Purpose & Application:

Ideally suited for times when grounding and physical resonance are key.The vibration is easily absorbed by the body, helping clients get out of their heads and back fully into their bodies. It supports clearing blockages and creates a firm foundation.

Chimes

The Refinement of the Four Elements

Koshi chimes are compact instruments known for their subtle, almost fairy-like sounds. They bring a refined nuance that gently colours a session without being foreboding.

Sound character:

Crystalline and subtle. Each chime is tuned to one of the elements (Earth, Water, Air, Fire) with a specific interval tuning that brings instant harmony.

Playing mode:

Eight metal rods are soldered with silver on a base plate inside a sound box.By gently moving the chime, the clapper touches the rods and the circular harmonics are released.

Purpose & Application:

Ideally suited for times when grounding and physical resonance are key.

The vibration is easily absorbed by the body, helping clients get out of their heads and back fully into their bodies.

It supports clearing blockages and creates a firm foundation.

Ocean Drum

The Call of the Sea

The Ocean Drum is a unique instrument that blurs the line between sound and natural perception. It impressively mimics the roar of the surf, ranging from a calm swell to a powerful tidal wave.

Sound character:

Rhythmic, soothing and wide-frequency. The sound consists of thousands of tiny taps that combine to form a continuous, fluid carpet of sound. This ‘white noise’ effect helps calm active thinking immediately.

Playing mode:

The instrument consists of a wooden frame with two sheets, between which there are small metal or glass beads.Holding the drum horizontally and tilting it very slowly causes the grains to roll. The speed and angle of movement determine the intensity of the ‘burning’.

Purpose & Application:

The Ocean Drum is mostly used for deep relaxation and visualisations. In a therapeutic setting, it helps clients surrender to the flow of the moment, where built-up emotional tension can symbolically ‘wash away’.

Monochords

An Ocean of Harmonic Sounds

The monochord embodies the principle of repetition and surrender. All strings are tuned to exactly the same basic tone, creating a rich field of natural overtones when played - an effect often described as an ‘angelic choir’.

Sound character:

Monotone but extremely rich. One hears the keynote as a deep current, with above it a whole ladder of subtle harmonics that seem to float above the instrument.

Playing mode:

The monochord is played by stroking the strings with the fingertips at an even pace.

This constant movement causes the individual strings to merge into one undulating ocean of sound. The circular harmonics are released.

Purpose & Application:

Primarily for total surrender and achieving deep relaxation stops.

At the Sound Chapel, the monochord table is used for reclining sessions, where the vibration is felt through every cell in the body.

Meet resonance in the Sound Chapel

Recognition as a Compass: In the Sound Chapel, we guide you to feel beyond technique which instrument, be it the linear purity of crystal or the earthy density of copper, resonates in you right now. We create the conditions in which craftsmanship and silence come together, allowing you to experience sound in all its unadulterated purity.

Integrative Resonance: Each encounter with these instruments forms a bridge between the professional role and the deep source from which you work. It is an invitation, carried by the vibrations in the Chapel, to let the sound speak without the need for explanation.

In the Sound Chapel, you are not just an observer, but become part of the energetic field. This is where the space is created where the right material and your presence meet.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Do I need experience with music or sound therapy to choose an instrument?

No, it is not necessary. For the Scanning Seeker (like Lianne), the world of overtones can seem overwhelming, but it's not about musical knowledge. It's about how a vibration resonates in your body. In the Sound Chapel, we guide you to listen beyond ‘understanding’ so that you intuitively feel which instrument suits you.

This is a question the Professional Counsellor (like David) often asks. Briefly, crystal (silica) acts strongly on the upper energy centres; it brings clarity, focus and helps with mental stillness. Copper has a higher physical density; its vibration is more earthy and more easily absorbed by the body, which helps in releasing physical tension and deep grounding.

Yes. For the Musician (like Jeroen), provenance is essential. We do not work with mass production. Each instrument - from the monochord to the brass pyramids - is craftsman-made and selected for purity of sound and intention. At the Chapel, you do not buy a ‘product’, but a unique sound object that serves as an extension of your work.

Absolutely. For Marleen, seeking bedding, it is essential that there is no sales pressure. You can make an appointment for a personal listening session or join a retreat. The quiet and time in the Sound Chapel are there precisely to let the sounds sink in, so that you choose not from your head, but from experience.

Overtones help the brain to switch quickly from an active state to deep relaxation (Alpha and Theta frequencies). Instruments such as the Ocean Drum or Monochord provide a safe carpet of sound that allows clients to release their resistance more quickly. The instrument does the work, leaving you, the facilitator, more space to simply be present.

We want to emphasise that:
Gongs singing bowls within sound therapy work to support your personal growth process and well-being. Although the vibrations can mean a lot, they never replace the medical care of a doctor or therapist in case of serious complaints. Be good to yourself and when in doubt, always consult a professional.
